What is Neutron?
Neutron is a smart-contract platform in the Cosmos ecosystem, built with CosmWasm (a WebAssembly-based contract framework) and aimed at developers building more complex on-chain applications, like automated cross-chain strategies, than a minimal settlement chain like Cosmos Hub is designed to run.
Neutron launched under Cosmos Hub's replicated security, where the Hub's own validators produced its blocks. That arrangement has ended: Neutron moved to a long-term support footing, replacing custom staking with standard Cosmos staking, shrinking its active validator set, and withdrawing and burning its DAO delegations through 30 September 2026. This pool is closing and is not open to new stakes.
It's the newest network in this portfolio, with a newer application layer and a different security and validator arrangement compared with a chain like Cosmos Hub that secures itself independently.
How rewards work on Neutron
Because Neutron's blocks are produced by the Cosmos Hub's validator set rather than a fully independent Neutron-only set, the rewards for securing the chain are paid in NTRN to the validators doing that work, and shared with the people delegated to them, on top of whatever those same validators already earn for validating the Hub itself.
That means NTRN's reward rate isn't driven by a single network-wide "inflation targets a bonded percentage" formula the way ATOM's is. It's shaped instead by Neutron's own reward parameters and transaction fee revenue, both of which can be adjusted through Neutron's own governance process over time.
Risk for this pool
Every pool carries the risks inherent to delegating: rewards vary with network conditions, and a that goes offline or breaks the rules can be , with the loss shared by every delegator behind it.
This chain is winding down and is scheduled to complete on 30 September 2026, so it is listed for reference rather than as somewhere to delegate. Longest unbonding period at 28 days. Secured by Cosmos Hub validators through replicated security.
This is specific to Neutron. Read the full risk disclosure before you delegate.
Questions about Neutron
What is replicated security / Interchain Security?
It's an arrangement where a new chain, like Neutron, doesn't build its own independent validator set from scratch. Instead, validators already running Cosmos Hub opt in to also produce blocks for Neutron, extending the Hub's established security to a new chain immediately rather than asking a brand-new token to defend itself alone.
If Hub validators secure Neutron, why is this a separate pool from Cosmos Hub?
Delegating to this pool allocates specifically to Neutron's own economics. Its commission, unbonding period and reward rate are all set independently of the Cosmos Hub pool, even though the underlying validator work overlaps.
Why does Neutron have the longest unbonding period in this portfolio?
Unbonding periods are set independently by each network's own parameters and risk profile, not chosen by Sentinel. Neutron's is the longest among the five pools here.
What can actually be built on Neutron?
Neutron is designed for CosmWasm smart contracts: programs that can, for example, automate strategies across multiple IBC-connected chains. That's a different job from Cosmos Hub, which deliberately doesn't run general application logic itself.
Does delegating to the Neutron pool carry the same slashing risk as the other pools?
The slashing mechanism is the same in kind (a validator that misbehaves can lose a portion of its stake, shared across everyone delegated to it), but it applies through the Hub's validator set rather than a Neutron-only one. Read this pool's risk notes for the specifics that apply here.
